Administrator in Training (AIT) Programs

NCSLA offers two pathways to complete the educational portion of North Carolina’s Administrator Certification process: an in-person program through NCSLA and an online program in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC Greensboro).

Both programs are designed to prepare future Adult Care Home and Family Care Home administrators with practical knowledge of assisted living operations, leadership, regulatory requirements, and resident care.

All AIT candidates must also complete a minimum 100-hour preceptorship in a licensed Adult Care Home or Family Care Home under an approved AIT preceptor. Students are responsible for identifying and securing their preceptor. DHSR requirements, including the application process, background check, college transcript, state exam, and required communication with the student and preceptor, remain applicable.

In-Person NCSLA Program

Held at the NCSLA Raleigh office every other month, this option combines classroom instruction, independent study, and practical preparation for administrator responsibilities.

NCSLA/UNC Greensboro Online Program

This flexible online option allows students to complete the classroom portion at their own pace using online readings, videos, quizzes, and interactive learning activities.

Choose the format that works best for you—both pathways are designed to help prepare you for successful leadership in North Carolina senior living.
